Norse inspired vodka packaging – Vargold Vodka

Posted by rod - 11.11.2013

Norse inspired vodka packaging - Vargold Vodka

With Thor in the movies this Norse inspired vodka comes at the right time. Vargold Vodka is a fictions brand invented by UK based illustrator Matt Taylor together with I Love Dust. The brand’s name Vargold is the name given to the end of days – or wolf age – in Norse mythology.  The four bottle designs feature; Odin and his raven, Vidar battling Fenrir, and the unnamed eagle atop Yggdrasil – the world tree. There is something special about using illustration on packaging design which I would say stands out on the shelf.

Also check out Matt’s awesome Austria illustration for Global Blue (second down).

Founders Kim Haagensen, Sindre Røstad and John Wuya, would like to share a piece of Scandinavia with you though its Scandinavian Coffee House.

The concept of the Scandinavian Coffee House is to introduce Scandinavian roots to foreigners by combining majestic nature, Scandinavian design heritage, Nordic flavors and off course its coffee expertise.

Norwegian architecture firm Snøhetta and Andreas Engesvik are responsibility for the coffee shops retail and interior experience, which is based on openness, honesty and closeness to nature, some of Scandinavia’s distinct characteristics.

Its first coffee shop will open up this May in Ålesund, Norway. Hopefully other cities such as New York and Tokyo will follow.

Norsk Øl

Posted by rod - 29.03.2010

This is a nice packaging approach from Ryanna Christianson a recent graduate from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. She created a six pack of Norsk Øl which is based on the Scandinavian Nisse. Nisse is a figure who, according to Scandinavian beliefs live in barns and around farms. The Nisse is deeply ingrained in Norwegian culture and tradition and he is thought of as short and stocky with a long grey or white beard and a knitted red cap. He wears dark knickers and a shirt and vest or a sweater. He brings children Christmas gifts. I wonder why Ryanna didn’t use the Norwegian “Øl” in OL? via packaginguqam
