Belarusian chocolate design

Belarusian chocolate packaging design

You don’t see Belarusian chocolate design everyday. Therefore I am quite happy to have stumbled across this design at typophile. The chocolate bar design is a holiday special, and the girl resembles Снегурочка/Snegurochka – the Snow Maiden, one of the helpers of Father Frost, the Russian Santa Claus. The Snow Maiden is one of the main New Year/Christmas/Winter folklore figures of the region, who in this case wears a traditional Russian headwear called кокошник/Kokoshnik.

The leading luxury Scotch whisky, Chivas Regal teamed up with NBSudio and award winning New York illustrator, Dan Funderburg to design a limited edition gift tin packaging.

The tin features a stunning golden lion emblem which is a key element on Chivas Regal packaging. The lion expresses  the brand’s values and masculinity, regality, bravery and luxury. For this packaging design the Lion is made up of different elements of textures illustrating  Chivas rich layers and flavor in the whisky.

James Slack, Brand Director for Chivas Regal, comments, “Known for contemporary, baroque designs inspired by historical ornamentation, Dan was the perfect artist to reflect the distinctive style and rich heritage of Chivas Regal. His bold, masculine design will appeal to the brand’s largely male consumer base, with increased on-shelf visibility, further strengthening Chivas Regal’s position as the most dynamic brand in the super premium Scotch whisky category.”

Funderburgh added: “Heraldic crests have always appealed to me aesthetically so I wanted to utilise this element of Chivas Regal in my design. Within the lion I included patterns that are relevant to the Chivas brand—some Scottish thistles and checks, interspersed with more contemporary geometric and global patterns. The aim was to achieve an end result that was bold, but with delicate details and a contemporary approach to the tradition of chivalry.”

Chiveas Regal was first produced by the Chivas Brothers, who established the brand in 1801 in Aberdeen Scotland. via popsop

I haven’t seen a lot of design work from Azerbaijan but I was impressed when I saw the Gazelli Cosmetics packaging. The name Gazelli is inspired by an ancient Azeri from of lyrical poetry in praise of Beauty, Youth and Love. The illustrations featured on the packaging capture rural women of Azerbaijan. Gazelli hopes their product is an extension of hospitality in their poetic land of beauty.
