Greek inspired corporate identity - Atlant

Made by Losko created the corporate identity for repair and construction company Atlant. The design studio decided to build on its name and develop the identity around ancient greek culture and mythology. Thus the idea of a brutal face of Atlanta and chopped inscriptions was born.

Ouzo packaging design – taste of Greece

Ouzo packaging design - taste of Greece

Greek design agency Dolphins // Communication Design recently developed the packaging design for the Ouzo Mitilini. The agency was commissioned to design five bottle, each featuring a different illustration that embodies Greece.

“The design aims at the differentiation from the competition in the field of souvenirs. Ouzo is one of the defining drinks of Greece, to a point that it is now deemed to be a stereotypical choice. This is the reason why images and symbols which are closely connected to the Greek tradition and culture were used. The tone of the illustration, although inspired by the ancient black-figured vessels, maintains an alternative and vivid code of aesthetics.”

Greek olive oil packaging design

 Greek olive oil packaging design

Greek designer Dimitrios Panagiotidis created this Greek olive oil packaging design for Five Olive Oil called “An Emblem of Wisdom” The packaging design’s inspiration comes from the old greek paintings of the Olympic games. A host of archaeological evidence reveals the existence of olive trees in the Hellenic territory since the Neolithic era, namely 7,000 years ago. The olive has been considered by Greeks a blessed fruit since antiquity: an emblem of knowledge, wisdom, abundance, health, power and beauty. Legends, traditions, religious and athletic ceremonies have relied upon it. The olive branch was awarded to the winners of the Olympic Games since 776 B.C. and in antiquity it symbolized the peace and mandatory truce all over the world throughout the duration of the Games.

Athene Noctua wine packaging

Although the Noctua wine is produced on the small Turkish island of Bozcaada it’s label was inspired by its neighbours Greece and Italy. The Athene Noctua wine packaging label was created by US designer Mehmet Irdel.

“In Greek and Roman mythology, Athene Noctua (or little owl) is the symbolic owl of Athena or Minerva, respectively. Often referred to as the “owl of Athena” or “owl of Minerva”, it accompanies Athena in Greek myths, seen as a symbol of wisdom because the owl is capable of seeing even in the dark and of vigilance because the owl is awake at night.

As Athene Noctua is a resident of Bozcaada (or Tenedos in Greek), a Turkish island off the Aegean cost of Turkey, the name “Noctua” was a good fit for a wine that comes from the breezy hills and fertile soil of Bozcaada.

The logo mark was inspired by the little owl imagery on the Athenian Owl coins that were minted in Athens and used throughout ancient Greece.”

Meet The Greek restaurant design

Meet the greek restaurant design by end of work Meet the greek restaurant design by end of work Meet the greek restaurant design by end of work Meet the greek restaurant design by end of work Meet the greek restaurant design by end of work Meet the greek restaurant design by end of work

Independent branding and design consultancy “End of Work” from Sydney created the identity and interiors for the Greek restaurant chain “Meet the Greek”.

“This restaurant chain started with a simple idea: bring together traditional and contemporary aspects of Greek culture and cuisine. End of Work was given the task of translating this into a visual identity and interior design.

The concept we devised was based on ‘modern authenticity’. Identity and interior work together seamlessly thanks to ‘identity boards’ created for the restaurant walls. These modular wooden panels feature Greek sayings, translated back into English – an exercise that made for some humorous results. Black and white family photos were incorporated into these boards, adding a sense of quaint nostalgia. End of Work also created a 10-foot high typographic map comprised of three layers of sculpted typographic words. Intricately laser-cut from plywood, it created a show-stopping centerpiece for the restaurant itself.

From its architecturally inspired logo to laser-etched plywood menus and innovative ‘matchbook’ business cards, every facet of Meet the Greek’s identity was designed to be unique, quirky and engaging.”

Zarbanis distillery Ouzo

Greek church for Zarbanis distillery ouzo

Ouzo is uniquely Greek and its most popular alcoholic drink. It has been around for many hundred years and has a profound culture and history. The Geek government thinks it is so unique that it won the exclusive rights to use the product name ouzo.

Athens design agency Mousegraphics designed the label for Zarbanis distillery who were inspired by typical greek colours and architecture.

“The briefing (in brief): “i want to sell my ouzo. I need a label. It is a new entry and i want to use my name on it”. The target audience: people that drink alcohol and have a taste for ouzo. Greeks and tourists. The design: we used three interlocking elements in the package design: the name, the provenance, the essence. Ouzo (a spirit variant widely recognized by locals and foreigners) connected with the producer through a stressed Z letter (several heroic connotations here). An equally recognizable white-blue island church speaks of all beautiful things Greek. A transparent glass allows the transparent spirit to add a sense of lightness and purity in the mix. This is folklore with none of the hyperboles usually related to it.”

Some of the beautiful traditional stuff of Greece illustrated by Dimitra Tzanos

“Art Source Publishing is a small publishing house in Sarasota, Florida focusing on “art-centered books and fine art prints”. I created these illustrations for a book about Greek customs and traditions. It was quite interesting doing this project at a time when most people are focusing on the negative characteristics of Greece and it’s people. Actually, it was a refreshing reminder of the many beautiful things that are still so Greek.” Also check out Dimitras Moroccan night and London Landmark illustrations.

Brill. Greek restaurant identity

Posted by rod - 16.08.2010

“Brill is a food take-out business using small shop spaces in dense urban settings where consumers want to be amused and dazzled while expecting care and attention. The branding melds precision with frivolity to surprise and delight. Our logo starts with a scalloped border and moves in ward with greek fret motifs to checkers and cross-stitch. The subtle repetition of the pattern carries the sense of temperance, as if juggling for the queen.” Designed by Couple
