Paul Wex traveled to Cuba to discover what he says “a broken, but absolutely beautiful island! Lagged and broken, because of consequence of an economical embargo and communism in the early past….”

Paul created an incredible film which he entirely shot handheld with a 5Dmk3 and 50mm.

Enjoy!

Frozen in time, Cuba is an island that feels like it hasn’t changed in 60 years. Photographer Sven Dreesback had the opportunity to travel to the capital La Habana to photograph its people and their way of living. If you ever have the chance, I strongly recommend you to travel to Cuba before the country opens up completely, before westernised companies take over the country.

Havana Club rum was established in 1878 by José Arechabala and is made in Santa Cruz del Norte, Cuba. The Cuban brand is one of Cuba’s best ambassadors, which promotes cuban culture across the globe and off course its rum.

In 2009 the rum labels were slightly redesigned, resulting that the figure 7 on the bottle neck received a higher visibility and a label that was inspired by cuban cigar brands. Classic elements such as the logo which includes the iconic La Giraldillia statue from Havana were not redesigned.

Autentica Cuba from Brandworks on Vimeo.

Cuba is stepping up its game in the race to brand its nation to the world. Cuba’s latest efforts to draw in tourists to experience Havanna, Varadero and other prominent sights looks promising in my perspective. Countries such as  Venezuela and Zambia who also recently changed their appearance could learn from Cuba.

The Cuban Ministry of Tourism approached Toronto based branding agency Brandworks to design its tourism brand. The concept is based on “Auténtica Cuba”, showing real life situations. With the help of photographer Russel Monk the world-wide campaign received its authenticity and its international appeal.

Portland Photographer John Valls traveled to Cuba in the past six years to document the slow rhythms and quiet pleasures of daily life on Fidel’s family tobacco farm. Most of you most probably know that cigars are big business in Cuba and is a big part of Cuba’s history and tradition. But not only are the cigars famous but also everything that accompanies it such as these vintage Cuban cigar box’s. They are worth having a look at.
