Branding Air Seychelles

Branding Air Seychelles logo

Last year I reported about the new Air Seychelles identity, the national carrier of the Seychelles. Here is a follow up report with some more images and thoughts from the design agency Turnstyle.

“Air Seychelles is the national airline of the Republic of Seychelles, literally a thousand miles from everywhere, in the center of the India Ocean. With the imminent delivery of new Boeing 787s to augment their fleet, Turnstyle collaborated with Teague to evolve the 25-year-old Air Seychelles identity and reinvigorate their brand.

The identity supports their tagline—“Flying the Creole Spirit”—by highlighting the Seychelles’ unique cultural attractions, including warmth and friendliness, tranquility, water activities, and favorable weather year round.”

“An airline’s brand extends far beyond its logo and livery. For Air Seychelles, Turnstyle collaborated with Teague to deliver on a wide range of brand touchpoints, including their website, advertising, signage, uniforms and print collateral.”

“In addition to the master-branded livery for the international fleet, Turnstyle created a series of designs for Air Seychelles island hoppers, each inspired by the a key natural feature of the Seychelles.”

I adore these ads for the Seychelles. The photographs have something mysterious, exclusive and historic about them which makes me want to hop onto the next plane and visit these extraordinary islands. The ad was created by Johannesburg ad agency TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris and photographed by Mike Lewis. Last week I wrote about the brand identity of the Seychelles islands which I recommend you have a look at.

The Seychelles Islands brand identity

With over 115 granite and coral islands spread across the Indian Ocean the Seychelles are considered to be amongst the most beautiful islands in the world. In 2006 the archipelago unveiled it’s tourism brand which showcases the countries breathtaking beauty and diversity.

The brand features a colourful logo which looks exotic and represents the Seychelles flora and fauna. The Flora and fauna element above the name that also can be used as a graphical element throughout the brand identity seam to fall short of a deeper meaning in my opinion. If you would strip away the name the element could just as well represent the Maldives or any Pacific island nation.

The logo uses the the words “the seychelles islands” opposed to simply “Seychelles”. “Although ‘Seychelles’ is of course the official name of the country, we felt that using ‘the Seychelles islands’ in our new campaign would be a great educational tool for our audiences, to reflect the reality that we have over 100 different and diverse islands,” said Mr Lalanne.

It looks like the Seychelles is stepping up its tourism initiative. Alongside the fresh looking tourism identity, the country also launched the new brand identity for Air Seychelles in recent months. via soydg

New Air Seychelles identity

Posted by rod - 30.09.2011

air seychelles new livery designNew Air Seychelles identity logo design

Air Seychelles recently announced that they have launched their new brand identity. The new logo and livery received a facelift portraying the airline as more modern and fresh.

The logo symbol saw the most change. The Fairy Tern birds which are a national symbol in the Seychelles became more smooth and abstract. A new organic leaf shape was chosen, ditching the flag like background in the old symbol. In addition the leaf received light and brighter reds and greens adding dimension and depth to the logo. The striking colours with the abstracted images of the birds and leaf are directed at capturing the Seychelles core spirt that brings us to the airlines tagline “Flying the Creole Spirit”.

What do you think about the new identity?
