Air Inuit – Redesign of the brand identity

Posted by rod - 21.02.2014

Air Inuit is a regional airline that provides an essential passenger, charter, cargo and emergency air transport services throughout northern Quebec and destinations across Canada. The airline began operations in 1978 and is wholly owned by the Inuit people. The redesign of the brand identity of Air Inuit was created by Montreal based FEED in collaboration with brand consultant Marc-André Chaput. Check out the old logo here.

The aim was to develop the new positioning of the carrier and review all components of its brand identity in the context of a larger project to modernise the company. One of the first things people will see is the orange and black bilingual logo which is set in Inuktitut and Roman letters. The logo is quite straightforward but standout because of the orange script.

The new identity of Air Inuit brand is a contemporary interpretation of the rich Inuit cultural heritage and bold new vision. Feed studio’s own illustrator Stéphane Poirier, created the pattern of geese, to reflect the Inuit’s love and respect of nature and the abundant wildlife.

In addition, FEED worked hand in hand with French typeface designer Jean-Baptiste Levée to create the exclusive typeface called Air Inuit Sans. The corporate font is one of a few typefaces in the world that is able to rite the Inuktitut language.
