South East Asian Kueh illustrations

It all started off as a proposal for a Peranakan restaurant. In the process of drawing the kueh, Lee Xin Li got fascinated by the plethora of kueh from the various cuisines around South East Asia.

For those of you who never heard of Kueh such as me. Kueh is are bite-sized snack or dessert foods commonly found in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore as well as Southern China. Kueh can be cakes, cookies, dumplings, pudding, biscuit, or pastries, and are usually made from rice or glutinous rice.

As some of you know, Kueh has many names, kueh, kuih, kway or kue. There are many forms of spelling for each of the kueh from Baba Malay, Malay ,Indonesian to Chinese. Included are some of the alternative names, using their common names as well for the 3 pieces.
