You most probably have heard about the Japanese Geisha, but have you heard about her less famous apprentice Maiko? Maiko’s are around 15 to 20 years of age and their job consists of performing songs, dances, and playing the shamisen (three-stringed Japanese instrument) for visitors. As the Geisha, Maiko’s wear the traditional Japanese Kimono dress and their hairstyle originated from the Edo period. via shootingfilm
