African street art by Roa for I Art Joburg
Posted by rod - 02.10.2012Bringing some wildlife back into the city
Belgium street artist Roa has completed this awesome African street art mural for the “I art Joburg“ project which is presented by Adidas Original in Johannesburg, South Africa. The mural which took approximately one month to paint features six massive sleeping african animals, the Giraffe, Rhino, Elephant, Hippo, Gazelle and Sable Antelope. Each animal is perfectly integrated into the buildings environment placing them each on a new level. I agree with the I art Joburg site, “Roa has done a brilliant job of bringing some wildlife back into the city.“ If you are in Joburg I recommend you to head to the Maboneng Precinct to see Roa’s and other artists street art.
Roa is famous for painting animals around the world. One of the project which he participated in and which you should check out is the awesome “Wide open walls, Gambia – Turning villages into living art“
Photographer Martha Cooper took the above pictures of street artist Roa in action.
