Zambia’s new tourism logo
Posted by rod - 11.07.2011After 8 weeks and 956 entries to the rebrand Zambia tourism competition a winner was chosen. Michel Scarantino created the new logo which incorporates the famous Zambezi river which tumbles down the Victoria Falls and the Zambian colours, red, black, green and yellow.
As much as I like that he incorporated some Zambian elements I personally think that the logo isn’t thought through and does not stand out next to other tourism identities. The execution is poor and looks like is was slapped together in Paint.
What do you think about the logo?

The concept is appreciated but it needs loads of refinement, yes.
It has to be one of the worst I have seen for a while. It looks like a child has done it.
Welll I think you have to ask some Zambians what they think.
You say that “the logo does not stand out next to other tourism identities” : good point if you want to show your difference. And that’s Zambia has to do : say that it’s somewhere everything is different. Even its logo design !
Personnally, I think it would match if what they wanted is to reflect simplicity and warmth of the country and their inhabitants.
@amndne @designorthsouth : All the same. Malta: http://t.co/R0gIuNE Tunisia: http://t.co/3iVyso0 Pilipinas http://t.co/TzIK9sU WHY? #cliché
It is worst than the one of my country (Romania – the green leaf is from istockphotos
)
Yup. What you said. If they want something simple and more unique than those very on point links that Colin pasted, they have to try harder.
Hmm… This looks similar to a proposed logo for Philippine tourism, which was criticized for looking too similar to the logo on Poland’s travel website.
Photos of the Philippine and Poland logos may be found in this news article: http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/lifestyle/11/18/10/pilipinas-kay-ganda-logo-lifted-poland-logo
Hi Kato
Thanks for the link. Its funny to see that most tourism logos look the same. WHY???
It looks unfinished, it needs further development, it can hold the simplicity but in a more refined representation.
